Reliable statistics confirm that as many as 2.7 million cases of child abuse are reported each year, with as many as 900,000 substantiated cases. These children and adolescents are placed into alternate care facilities such as foster homes, residential treatment facilities and group care centers.
According to the American Humane Association, cases involving severe abuse, including sexual abuse, make up over twenty percent of all cases. The federal National Incidence Study arrived at roughly similar results.
Crossroads Group Home is the first high management residential group facility of its kind in the state of South Carolina to serve uniquely the female population, addressing issues concerning sexual, physical and emotional abuse. The Treatment Team will assess and treat adolescents ranging in ages from ten to twenty-one with the goal of reuniting each girl with her family or helping her move into substitute alternate care or independent living situation.
The highly structured, therapeutically intense program was developed to help each resident attain the goal of moving from the status of victim, to that of survivorship. In association with the therapeutic component, an expressive therapies, recreational therapy and educational component will be stressed. With the proper treatment and support, this special needs population can be successfully treated.
The Intensive Therapy Program initiates the first and most crucial step
in addressing issues surrounding abuse. Placement in the Crossroads Group
Home High Management Program allows healing and growth for the abused, adolescent
female with aftercare available to all residents remaining in the area after
discharge insuring continued recovery.
