This summer, Crossroads hosted its first ever out-of-state intern. Anne Cooper traveled to SC from the University of Notre Dame as a participant in the Notre Dame Summer Service Project program to learn first-hand the things that books cant teach and see in person the difference service and compassion can make. Each year more than 200 Notre Dame students participate in the Summer Service Project program, offering eight weeks of service to food pantries, homeless shelters, clinics and other organizations such as Crossroads. Each individual service project is coordinated through the local Notre Dame Alumni Club, giving alumni the chance to learn along with the student. While volunteering, the students completes reading and writing assignments to earn three theology credits, as well as reporting his or her experience to the alumni members. Working together, the University, the Alumni Club, the organization, and most of all the student, benefit in countless ways from this unique program.
